Adding your Twitter.com account seems like it should be a simple thing to do. DotTel has already incorperated many of the messaging and social networking links including skype, google chat, msn chat, ICQ, AIM, Jabber, and many SMS protocols. What befuddled me was that I could not get my DotTel manager to input my Twitter address without throwing an “invalid url” error.
While on Twitter I realized that other DotTel folks had indeed already posted their Twitter address on their DotTel. OK, so I could see that it was possible, but how did they do it…
I tried quotes around the url, no luck. I then tried single quotes, still no luck . I tried inputting it as a secure page, which it allowed. BUT, the secure page only took my browser to a horrid warning page about the evils of connecting to a non-secure page (my twitter url) and it scared even me.
So a bit more trial and error and VOILA!
It seems that DotTel must expect a php, htm, html,js or some similar familiar “approved web page ending”. Since our twitter account address simply ends with our user name it was never going to let me post JUST THAT. The secret that i stumbled upon (hey, another social network) was to simply place a space after my url and then all was accepted by the DotTel manager and I was happy too.
Hopefully this will rescue you if you want to post your twitter account to your DotTel page.
If you have any tips please email them or login and post them your self. You can even leave them in the comments section of this post. Thanks for visiting MsDotTel.
